It started with a dream to inspire you and other young people around the world to become passionate about clean energy and the many opportunities it offers.
We are six women who have put this book together: from Algeria, Poland, Canada, South Africa and Belgium.
Some of us are mums and some are not, but we all share the belief that you and other young people have the power to help change the world for the better.
Malgosia, Yamina and Joyce work in wind associations that are helping people understand the role of wind energy in combating climate change. Veronique develops renewable energy projects in South Africa. Philippa is a journalist writing about climate change and how clean energy is an important solution for stopping global warming. Chantal is an artist, who did the illustrations.
This book is about 21 people who are working in clean energy to help tackle the climate crisis. This project would not have happened without all the amazing young people from 25 different countries, who formed our Editorial Committee and sent more than 1,000 questions to the people whose stories feature in the book. You can find all their names here.
Chloé aged 11 from Brussels in Belgium, and her dad Ian, deserve special thanks. They were our test readers, and Chloé made sure we saw the world through young people’s eyes!
This book is also supported by a number of global and local partners, who are aligned in their missions of clean, accessible energy for all and the importance of education for future generations.
The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) is the international trade association for the wind power industry. Our mission is to ensure that wind power establishes itself as the answer to today’s energy challenges, providing substantial environmental and economic benefits. Our mandate from our members is to communicate the benefits of wind power to national governments, policy makers and international institutions. We provide authoritative research and analysis on the wind power industry in more than 80 countries around the world.
GWEC is a co-organiser of the Women in Wind Global Leadership Program, and a proud supporter of diversity in the global wind industry. This book is a collaborative effort to educate and inspire the next generation about climate action. A larger, diverse renewable energy workforce is needed worldwide to foster a safer, cleaner global energy system.

The Women in Wind Global Leadership Program was jointly launched in 2019 by the Global
Wind Energy Council (GWEC) partnered with the Global Women’s Network for the Energy
Transition (GWNET). The program is designed to accelerate the careers of women in the
wind industry, support their pathway to leadership positions and foster a global network of
mentorship, knowledge-sharing and empowerment.
Women in Wind is a proud partner of this book project, which illuminates the diversity of
actors in the fight against climate change and the promotion of sustainable development. The
program supports this project’s effort to inspire and uplift the next generation of stewards for a
sustainable energy system, no matter their gender, colour or creed.
The South African Wind Energy Association is a proud supporter of this book project as it is aligned with the objectives of our Gender Diversity Working Group. SAWEA recognises that gender equality is an area that requires focused attention of the sector and one of the ways to achieve that is to instil these principles to the younger generation. Supporting organisations with similar objectives is one of the ways SAWEA creates collaborative relationships within the industry network. We therefore support any initiative that helps the youth identify their potential and increases their chances of taking leadership roles in future.

WE Connect was launched in 2020 as the first networking platform for women in renewable
energy in South Africa. We focus on improving gender equality through mentorship,
knowledge sharing and networking.
WE Connect proudly endorses this educational book project, which we believe will spark
curiosity and interest in renewable energy with our youth, our leaders of tomorrow.
WindEurope is the leading voice of the wind industry and the driving force for the direction of
the wind energy sector in Europe. It has over 400 member companies and organisations,
from all around the world, active on the European market. Its mission is to strengthen the
development of the European energy market, infrastructure and technology.
Impactful communication and educational activities are one of the key priorities of
WindEurope. Building on the success of “Let the wind blow” booklet for children about climate
change and the role wind plays in the energy transition, WindEurope has partnered with
GWEC to develop this new book. Its aim is to present people that are part of the green
revolution, working every day with passion, for a better, more sustainable world. We wanted
to show young people the whole variety of jobs the wind sector can offer. We wanted to make
it a book for children, developed by children. It was heartwarming to see how many children
around the world wanted to be part of this project! This book is dedicated not only to the
people that feature in there, but also our young editorial committee and all the children that
will want to open the book and read the stories.
